Title: Proofreader/Copyeditor
As a dedicated Freelance Proofreader and Copyeditor with over three years of experience, my proficiency encompasses literary and academic/technical editing. Having retired from a fulfilling career as a professor of Mathematics, now holding the title of Professor Emeritus, my transition into proofreading has allowed me to leverage my extensive academic background to enhance written works with meticulous attention to detail.
My role in academic proofreading and copywriting is informed by a deep understanding of the nuances of academic discourse, ensuring precision and clarity in every project. My approach aligns with the values of intellectual rigor and diversity of thought, as I contribute to a culture that prizes accuracy and scholarly integrity.
On a less formal level, I am a retired professor of mathematics from Southern Connecticut State University. When I retired in 2015 I was looking for something I could do to keep busy. I have written several statistics textbooks for John Wiley & Sons, and realized I wanted to contintue as part of the writing profession. My talents lie in the areas of revising and reviewing content, organizing articles and textbooks, and proofreading. I started doing freelance copyediting and writing using Freelance.com. After about a year I landed a contract job with Mr. Lee, and honestly that is all I ever knew about him. My job was to copyedit engineering articles written by non-English speaking Chinese professionals who used Google translate to produce articles written in English. My skills in organizing, correcting grammar and spelling errors, and picking style guides and formatting for specificic content and journals skyrocketed. I loved the work and I was good at it. During COVID the business dried up and never recovered. I kept freelancing for another year for a group of Middle Eastern graduate students at a university in Belgium who were pursuing Ph.Ds and jobs. Life got very busy after that and I stopped working for a few years. I am eager to get back into the field as I honestly love the work and I am good at what I do.
Although much of my experience has been in scientific and technical writing, and I also have experience in the nursing field. I staffed the office for Thesis Development in the Nursing Department at Southern Connecticut State University. I am ready to expand my experience to include non-technical acadmic writing, as well as other forms of nonfiction and children's literature.
My talents in literary proofreading and copyediting are enhanced by the fact that I read about three books a week, and wince at every misspelling, grammar error, continuity error and plot hole. If I read with a pen in my hand, and not on a Kindle, I would most likely mark up every book I read.
