Title: Transcript Proofreader
I worked in the criminal justice system for 25 years with roles in community offender management and inside a prison. But the last 11 years were spent inside courtrooms every day. For over a decade, I sat through a wide variety of legal proceedings, wrote detailed court reports for the benefit of the judiciary, and made verbal presentations to the court. I learned the importance of every tiny detail. Now I bring that same precision to proofreading transcripts.
After gaining a QLS Level 4 diploma (with distinction) in proofreading and editing with the College of Media and Publishing, I decided to use my criminal justice background to specialize in an area I know well. I completed the Transcript Proofreading: Theory and Practice™ course, which involved 60 lessons across 13 modules; 50 practice transcripts, including hearings, depositions, trials, and examinations under oath; and two hand-graded exams. This course also improved my understanding of US law as well as refining my proficiency in US English.
Court reporters in the US, don't be put off by my location. Living in the UK means that my working day begins while you are still sleeping, whatever time zone you are in; so I can return your annotated transcripts with a speedy turnaround time.
When I'm not working, you'll often find me spending quality time with my family. I also have a passion for travel, especially in our campervan, exploring the beautiful British Isles. The Scottish Highlands and islands are particular favorites along with the Lake District and Snowdonia National Parks. Further afield, I love cruising on the high seas and watching the England cricket team play on tour. My other hobbies include hiking in the mountains, puzzles, reading Stephen King novels, and listening to an eclectic mix of music, especially Foo Fighters and P!nk.
